There are four elements in a CCTV security system:

  • The camera system comprises a variety of CCTV cameras ranging from day / night cameras and vandal resistant domes to fully functional cameras or pan tilt zoom cameras (PTZ’s). They will be designed with the correct lenses to obtain the correct angle of view. The cameras are then linked via either standard coaxial cable, fibre optic cable, CAT 5 cable or via radio and microwave technology.
  • The recording of the images and events can be via a simple recording device such as a time lapse VCR or quad unit to a more sophisticated digital video recorder or matrix system. Digital video recorders capture high quality video images that are stored securely on an integral hard drive. Unlike analogue video recordings, digital recordings are easy to retrieve and do not degrade over time
  • CCTV monitors vary in size and performance, with a choice of colour or monochrome, flat-screen (TFT) or rack mounted, to suit any application.
  • A CCTV system can also be remotely monitored by a 24 hour Video Response Centre. The moment an intruder is detected, the operators are alerted to monitor and record events as they unfold. They take action by contacting key holders and /or the police as necessary.

Questions and Answers:

Q: How would a CCTV system benefit my company?

A: It acts as a deterrent to potential criminals and detects a crime in progress by capturing images on a camera and recording them. This can be a single CCTV camera monitoring a specific area or a more sophisticated system where multiple cameras are installed to monitor an entire site.

Q: How does a system work?

A: Depending on the nature of the system this can be as simple as a camera linked to a monitor via a cable and recorded onto a digital video recorder for reviewing events and images. A system can be set up to record only what is required - avoiding hours of review. (This can be achieved by setting up parameters for time and motion.)

Q: How much will it cost?

A: This depends on your requirements and MAC’s recommendations. However there are advantageous ways of financing a system, such as leasing which includes tax-deductable and fixed payments, pay-as-you-earn, no major up-front costs and the freedom to update to the best product available.

CCTV Systems in Plymouth and the South West

"M.A.C installed a network of mainly external CCTV Cameras on our Strode Road Industrial Estate in2009.  Great care was taken throughout to ensure the  right coverage, including erecting poles where required to gain height.  We were extremely pleased with the result and appreciated the attention to detail ,and after care service. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Company." Andrew Ware, Director, Claybrook Ltd.
