Who uses our commercial security systems?

 

Police Forces

A large number of police forces throughout the UK use the ANPR recognition engine in mobile systems.  Traffic police are able to read vehicle number plates and automatically check them against the national computer database.  If a match is found the officer will immediately be informed of the ‘hit’ and details of the suspect vehicle will be displayed on their screen.  Many mobile systems have the additional feature of allowing the cameras to be removed from the vehicle and positioned at the road side.  Mobile systems use an MDT (Mobile Data Terminal), a laptop or a rugged PC.

Ports

Various ports across the UK have been successfully running ANPR systems for a number of years now, some of which are working in conjunction with under-vehicle scanning systems.  As a vehicle passes over the scanning system ANPR software is triggered to recognise the number plate of the vehicle, providing the site with a log of number plates and a matching photographic image of the underside of the vehicle.  This system was designed to identify any illegal items or people that may be concealed under a vehicle. 

Petrol Forecourts

Throughout the UK many petrol forecourts have ANPR systems installed which connect with their local police headquarters. Sites are provided with a list of known ‘drive off’ vehicles and in such cases the staff can be warned via an audible alarm on the approach of any suspect vehicle and petrol pumps are shut down to prevent fuel loss.  Some re-sellers use our software development kit (SDK) to produce their own customised front ends for forecourts.

Town Centres

A large number of town centres throughout the UK have upgraded their CCTV systems to ANPR.  Working closely with the police, many town centres now have the ability to continually monitor traffic from various locations.  Existing colour/mono CCTV cameras are utilised, choosing cameras which can be set to ANPR mode (zooming to a preset position and setting to a high shutter speed).
