There are four main elements that make up an intruder or burglar alarm system.

  • The alarm system contains a control panel which can be designed to control numerous devices and functions. Control panels and keypads monitor detection devices, control system functions - such as setting or / un-setting the system, as well as controlling sounders and signalling, and providing power and battery backup.
  • Detectors and sensors include PIR (Passive Infrared) and dual technology which will detect movement when the system is activated and send a signal to the control panel initiating a sequence of events dependent on the system set-up. This includes sending a signal to a monitoring centre which can contact the police or sounding an alarm.
  • Sounders and signalling devices can communicate the state of the alarm either on site or to an off site monitoring centre. Both opening and closing of premises can be monitored as well as a power failure status.
  • Personal attack buttons can activate the system in the event of an emergency.

Q&A’s

Q: How would an intruder alarm system benefit my company?

A: It would alert key holders and a monitoring centre (if linked via a digital dialler and / or Red Care) that there was a potential intruder either entering or on the premises. A monitored alarm system may also help you qualify for a reduction in your insurance premiums.

Q: How does a system work?

A: A system works by installing a control panel and attaching devices such as movement detectors and door contacts. These can be installed by either a cabled or a wireless system.

Q: How much will it cost?

A: As with all of the systems MAC offer, this depends on the clients' requirements and MAC’s recommendations. However there are advantageous ways of financing a system, such as leasing which includes tax-deductable and fixed payments, pay-as-you-earn, no major up-front costs and the freedom to update to the best product available.

 Meeting complex alarm system needs

Many of our customers have complex, multiple-risk, intruder detection requirements within a building or site. As such, the security alarm systems we install are often designed to cope with specific, high security areas within premises. They must also accommodate legitimate movement of personnel in various areas at different times of the day.

Our 24/7 system management and monitoring facility can help to add value to your intruder alarm system investment.
